Tooth loss can have a considerable negative impact on a person's quality of life.

Specifically, multiple tooth loss will damage a person's eating ability, nutrition, appearance, speech, and self-esteem. The current dental treatments for replacing missing teeth are dentures, bridgework and dental implants.

A dental implant is a "root" device, made of titanium, used to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth.

With improving technology however, dental implants are quickly becoming the treatment of choice for missing teeth.

Dental implants can be used to replace individual or multiple teeth and are highly effective in restoring function for the patient as well as improving aesthetic outcomes.

In addition, using one or more dental implants to restore an edentulous area avoids preparing or “grinding” the adjacent teeth, thus preserving their vitality in the long term.

Virtually all dental implants placed today are root-form endosseous implants, i.e., they appear similar to an actual tooth root (and thus possess a "root-form") and are placed within the bone (endo- being the Greek prefix for "in" and osseous referring to "bone").

The bone of the jaw accepts and osseointegrates with the titanium post. Osseointegration refers to the fusion of the implant surface with the surrounding bone.

Following succesfull integration, the final restoration (i.e. a crown, a bridge or a denture) is placed onto them restoring function, speech and aesthetics.
